Topic: COMMoN & SAND LIZARDS & THE WEATHER
I wonder what this weather and the changes from one day to the next as it has been lately from warm almost sunny days back to sub zero freezing winter days instead of a normal gradualy warming up period , what affect will it have on the breeding pattern on local lizard populations whos breeding cycles must be getting confused as to hibernate or stay awake with these suddern drastic tempeture changes of recent?. because it certainly is affecting me. keith LOCAL ICYNICAL CELTIC ECO WARRIOR AND FAILED DRUID |

Topic: LAST SPOTTINGS OF THE YEAR
HI ALL with the year running out , It would be interesting to see who can have the last sighting of a snake or lizard after October up to Dec this year.as many years ago I found a grass snake in a comatose almost frozen solid state state in thick hoar frost in late afternoon around the end of November in the good old days before all this global warming & we really did have cold winters.Keith LOCAL ICYNICAL CELTIC ECO WARRIOR AND FAILED DRUID |

Topic: SURREY SAND LIZARDS
HI AS A NEW SUBSCRIBER ON THIS SITE ..WITH OVER 45 YEARS OF SAND LIZARD WATCHING EXPERIENCE. I HAVE WITNESSED THE DESTRUCTION OF HUNDREDS OF COLONIES WITHIN THE FRENSHAM COMMON AREAS WHERE THE HEATH AND SAND DUNES WERE FLATTENED OUT IN THE EARLY 1960s TO MAKE WAY FOR PINE PLANTATIONS AND ITS STILL HAPPENING TODAY UP THE ROAD AT HANKLEY COMMON WHERE THEY ARE LOSING HABITAT DUE TO THE EVER ENCROACHING GOLF LINKS THAT ARE CUTTING HUGE SWATHES OUT OF THE HEATHER I SEE LAST YEAR 2006 & IN 2004 WHERE A FEW COLONIES STILL EXISTED. ALAS NO LONGER . BUT THERE ARE STILL SOME SPOTS WITH ISOLATED COLONIES WITHIN THE CONFINES OF KETTLEBURY HILL & YAGDEN AREA ( WHERE YOU TAKE THE RISK OF BEING SHOT ON SITE BY THE SAS FOR LURKING AROUND HIGHLY SENSITIVE UNISEX ARMY POSTS THAT DOMINATE THE SITES ) BUT FOR HOW LONG ? AS A PROTECTED SPECIES HOW CAN ENGLISH NATURE WHO I REPORTED THIS ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE ITS OBVIOUSE THEY DONT GIVE STUFF BUT CONTINUE TO BE A FUNDED NON EFECTIVE QUANGO ON PROJECTS THAT SUIT THE PC HEALTH & SAFETY DESK WALLERS THAT DONT EVEN GET OUT TO VISIT THE SITES THAT ARE DISSAPEARING FOR EVER . . &nbs p;& ; ; ;am p;am p;am p;am p;nb sp; FROM KEITH BENNETT LOCAL ICYNICAL CELTIC ECO WARRIOR AND FAILED DRUID |
