Posted: 17 Sep 2007 Topic: Green lizard at Boscombe

Here is a photo of a male Green Lizard caught (and released) at Boscombe in the first week of June this year. Unfortunately, despite searching the cliffs all day it was the only one seen, which perhaps doesn't bode well as the weather conditions were perfect. I was eventually asked to stop climbing on the cliffs - it seems old Johnny Boscombe has some local bylaw or something that I overlooked!

Posted: 24 May 2007 Topic: Marsh frogs in Staffordshire.

First, I'd like to say a big HELLO to everybody, and thanks for making this a great site. I've only just registered and this is my first post.  Here is a photograph of some Rana ridibunda that have been breeding in south Staffordshire. I don't know how long they've been here but I first discovered them about eight years ago. They are spreading and make one hell of a racket at night. People think they're some sort of duck quacking. Sorry for not revealing their exact location. Could somebody clarify to me the exact law about Aliens? I read about American Bullfrogs that are collected and "disposed" of, and on the other hand I read on this forum that you need a licence to catch Aesculapian snakes? Are some aliens protected and not others? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. O.k. - I'm having trouble uploading image.

Thankyou for your reply, Caleb. I am still having trouble uploading the image even though it is less than 500kb and is a jpeg...any suggestions?

                  Regards,

Posted: 27 Apr 2008 Topic: GCN in garden ponds.

Somebody I work with claims to have Great Crested Newts breeding in their garden pond. I am hoping to visit soon to confirm this. Could somebody please advise me, are people allowed legally to keep GCN's in a garden pond? What does the law say about this? I only ask because, theoretically, if a garden pond is a breeding site for GCN's it could be unwittingly filled in by new homeowners should the property change hands. Any clarification on this would be appreciated.
