My only real interest in aircraft is when I'm sitting on one, bound for some hot and exotic destination! That said, I'd love to own a Stuka! James. |

I does look like an Agamid in the photo, but I believe there are no Agamids in the Americas? Maybe a Sceloporus species? James. |

I love camping. I have three tents, the one above, a nine berth star shaped monstrosity for family camping and a two man ridge tent for light-weight 'rough-stuff' camping. James. |

He seems to think our Adder is the same genus as the Puff Adder and Russells Viper! Last time I looked they were Bitis and Daboia. James. |

Topic: Adder Venom
Tony, there is now a school of thought that the venom of Vipera berus may also contain certain neurotoxic factions. More recent (and more accurate) case studies have revealed symptoms effecting the central nervous system; including sleepiness, disorientation, vertigo etc. Also ocular dysfunction has been observed, in the form of ptosis and blurred vision. I believe the Medical University in Krakow, Poland, is working on isolating the various components of V. berus venom. That might be a good starting point. James. |

Topic: Handling neos and collecting data
Gemma, you can get pin-sharp focus, top quality ventral shots by placing the snakes (in a glass box if required) on a colour flat-bed scanner, as used with a PC.... plus it loads the pic directly onto the PC. Very easy to lay down a measuring scale too. James. |

Here's an example of the quality and clarity you can achieve with a scanner.... This photo was taken to illustrate necrotic/ulcerative dermatitis in Thamnophis sirtalis. James. |
Fantastic image easy to make out every ventral scale, was the dermatitis a result of too damp an environment or is there another cause?
The result of poor captive care, I'm afraid..... Damp and dirty! James. |
Next I'm going to try an open ended box so I can squish them directly to the plate on the scanner
Yes. It's best to have the animal directly on the scanner plate. When I do it, I don't attempt to restrain them or keep them still in any way. I just wait until they settle then start the scan. James. |

Topic: Wainlode Cliff
Hi All, At the end of June I'm going camping for a long weekend at Wainlode Cliff (West of Cheltenham). Does anyone know if there is good reptile population in that immediate area? I'd like to get some photos while I'm there, but I don't really know the area, and time will be at a bit of a premium for lengthy searching. I understand that you prefer not to give exact locations on the open forum, so perhaps if someones can help me out, they could PM me? Thanks in advance. James. |
