Topic: Why is this lizard so special?
You are lucky indeed! Sorry to report the photo didn't come out on my email and I had to go to the website to see it. Anyone else having this problem or is it me and my settings? Michael I have been interested in reptiles and amphibians since boyhood and I would like to improve my knowledge and captive breed some species, particularly T.helveticus. |

Hi Gemma, Thanks for the explanation, which I just about understand, but the problem is not solved as I am on broadband and the image should therefore have appeared! Having said that, I don't think it is worth spending any time on at this stage, especially if you are "switching to an MS SQL version". Topic: Moving palmate newts??
Hello Martin, You don't say where you are located, but I could use a few palmates for my girlfriend's pond in Sutton in Ashfield. The newts that are there at the moment are smooths but smaller than usual. Maybe palmates would be more viable, as the area is high (about 500feet), being on the edge of the pennines. The water, mostly rainwater, is likely to be acid. Not seen many newts on land but there are numerous frogs and toads. We had lots of froglets this year as a heron took the couple of largish goldfish in the spring. There are a few small goldfish, offspring of the big ones, but I am expecting the heron to visit again soon ;-). I may even dig a second pond for them. I suppose the newts could be transferred whilst aestivating if you can find them, or maybe next year when they return to the water. Cheers Michael I have been interested in reptiles and amphibians since boyhood and I would like to improve my knowledge and captive breed some species, particularly T.helveticus. |

Topic: First lizard sighting of 2007
[QUOTE=benowz]One from Notts today. Weather conditions were great here Hi Benowz, I have never seen a viv in Notts, despite much searching. Nearest location to me to find them is Cromford canal in Derbyshire. Would you be prepared to meet me there next time you go? Having said that, I am pretty busy at the moment, but PM or email me anyway. I am in Stapleford, about 30 mins from Sherwood. Topic: 8th/9th March in Dorset
I have not been a very active member of this site, but I do read a lot of the posts about UK species. I am very envious of those here who can walk out and see reptiles near to where they live. I will be staying in a hotel near Christchurch, Dorset, from 7th to 9th of this month with my girlfirend and we would be grateful to anyone who may be going out looking for herps, who might be willing to take along a couple of civilised amateurs, preferably on 8th. I have seen adders in Derbyshire under the guidance of Chris Monk, who I am sure would vouch for me if necessary. Here's hoping. Michael

We managed to get out for a couple of hours on Sunday but it was cold and a bit overcast where we were, about a mile south of the closed reptile centre. Didn't see any herps, but surprised by the number of ponies we came across. Came home on Monday because of the weather. Would have gone to Derbyshire with Chris, if I had not had a business meeting down there on Friday. We would certainly have seen more herps!!
