just wondering if there was anyone in the west of scotland region who would be interested in going searching for adders shortly?

if so could you please either reply here, or - better still - pm or email me and we can discuss it further, thank you.

Kev

as has already been said, the temperature up here isn't warm enough for long enough periods to permit the incubation of grass snake eggs in scotland, hence why they aren't found here. the adder populations are scattered, but there are supposedly a few good 'hot spots' - although in saying that i have yet to see any, which with any luck will change in the not too distant future.

or possibly whenever your observations of addershave been made the adders haven't long fed. my initial thoughts on why the slow worms dont appear wary of the adders is simply that there is simply competition for limited areas of suitability.

after having a very quick look for info:

http://www.irene.org.uk/sarg/sarg2.htm

look at that link at the first sentence about the grass snakes. and also, search for natrix natrix on the EMBL database, you'll notice it says england under distribution, but not scotland

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 Topic: New shop in Lincolnshire

Hi, just want to point out to any members in Lincolnshire that there is a new specialist aquatics and exotics shop open in Kirton-in-Lindsey. Fins and Fangs is very recently opened but has a wide diversity of marine and tropical fish and a taxonomically broad array of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. The shop is run by knowledgeable staff that between them have many years experience and are highly qualified - including a MSci zoology graduate, a qualified vet nurse, and a professional and successful fish farmer. Collectively the staff also hold other qualifications and thus have the benefit of both experience and education. The staff are also extremely friendly and would love for any keen herp, invert, and fish hobbyists to pop in, have a look round and a chat.
