Posted: 19 Jan 2006 Topic: GCNs and salinity tolerance

A request for information regarding the salinity of GCN breeding habitat.

I want to know whether there is a threshold value of salinity above which GCNs will not use a waterbody, or whether there is a value for GCN mortality associated with salinity. All the information i have found so far is very subjective and there are many sweeping statements which have no scientific evidence to back them up. A number of people have mentioned populations of GCN in brackish pools to me, but unfortunately no salinity tests were done.

I would be very grateful for any information anybody has regarding the subject, whether it be publications, papers or first hand experience of GCNs using waterbodies with a high saline content.

thank you
