Topic: Blackwater Adders
Hi Everyone Saw these 2 while out near Gibraltar Barracks - the first was only 4 feet from a soldier lying against a tractor tyre.. Can you help sex these - Im sure there both Little Girls   |

I have a stream at the end of my garden and to my amazement my son spotted what looked a like a tiny python. I say python only because this snake was all wrapped round a lizard like a constricting snake My wife asked what it could be and i was stumped? I stumbled across this site in the hope you can make me the clever husband again |

Thanks ok looked up on google im convinced it is not a grass snake Thing is my wife reckons she's seen a few of down the garden over the years im digging out a camera now - in the meantime are the cats ok in the garden with them? |

Yes Ash is on the Borders I dont live bang on the ranges - though it's about 200 metres But the garden has a stream down the end and great basking areas Neighbour confirmed it was a smooth snake, but didn't say as she didn't want too many people to know due to these fellas being rare or something So can i charge them rent |

Brilliant thanks for that Now are any of the above latin names - realting to snakes?? Ive heard there is the largest European Viper situated within that region any truth in that? |

Really they collected alot of the Ottomans Vipers - surely it's illegal?? but thanks for the info have looked up Masked Dwark Snake - to no avail any pictures available |

Topic: Minley Adders
Hi these little monkeys were from a site in minley hants, though alot of the adders i see are close to thick gorse for instant get away, so i was wondering can adders be seen readily in the wide open heath?? im sure there there but i tend to focus alot of my attention on the banks. The reason i ask is that when ive seen Coronella austriaca they were in open heath, and want so desperately to see one of these near me in yateley   |

Ah thanks chief - that does confirm alot of my thoughts ok so before they disperse in the summer time to the open heather, is this to mate, or is that done prior? - also is it correct that once mating has taken place, very little is known as to where the adder goes? are they solitary?? - and would they still look to bask together in open heath or im guessing thats done in spring as they share their body heat?? thanks |

Topic: Can Baby Adders pack a Punch??
Hi Everyone While out looking sunday to see if there were adders out when the snow was - i literally stumbled on some strategicially placed tins- these were covered in snow pretty much so assumed nothing at all would be about. Put my hand and i touched a baby adder about 5 inches long by complete accident. And thank crunchie for some reason just remained rigid. Do they know the differnce in dry biting at that age, and could these do much damage at that size??? |

Topic: Possible Adder Bite
Hi All I was out on a site in Camberley yesterday afternoon, and while taking a few pictures of 2 adders, i noticed that a pidgeon about 1 foot away was motionless and not moving. I managed to disperse the adders and picked up the bird, upon checking his side i noticed a very small puncture mark...... The bird could just about walk but couldn't seem to fly just looked drunk. Could one of the adders have bitten the bird??? |
