Posted: 11 Feb 2007 today went looking a risley moss,warrington lovly place.the sun was shining, 50f. however were the adders are that part is unavailable to the public,i took some pictures from the hide. i took some pics and there are some walks you can go on there with rangers so il be going on one. here is some pics   http://ukreptiles.proboards55.com |

Posted: 11 Feb 2007 Nice pix James. I've just been looking at the reserve website and it seems like a good place to go to see all sorts. It's often a good idea to go with someone like a ranger who knows the area, the first visit at least, as you learn all sorts of things that might take you ages to pick up yourself. Even at places that I know pretty well I sometimes join organised walks and learn things I didn't know and also it's an opportunity to ask questions. People who know and love an area, like rangers do, are usually happy to give advice. Suz |

Posted: 11 Feb 2007 Hi - I live near to Risley and Adderwise, although they're there, it's a non starter. The only place they're seen is in the areas you've photographed which you can't access due to nesting birds etc. The whole moss is surrounding by thick woodland stopping their spread. As you mentioned the wardens sometimes do guided tours which is your only chance really. |

Posted: 12 Feb 2007 yes do you know when any events are on,theres none on a wesbite. do you know any other sites in the area,and have you been delamere forest.were are they there. there is 4 native species there,adder,grass snake,slow worm & common lizard. also were are the lizards in the moss.are they in the area you can go. have you been on a walk? did you see any. do you roughly know how many are there. http://ukreptiles.proboards55.com |

Posted: 13 Feb 2007 Hi - Sorry I don't know of any events, give them a ring there's always someone there in the day time. As far as I know this is the only site for Adder in Cheshire. Slow Worm again has only one site in Cheshire which I'm afraid is private. Delamere's not particularly good for reptiles although I'm sure Common Lizard and Grass Snake are around. |
