Posted: 24 Jun 2003 Hi Everyone, Has anyone had much luck looking for adders at Dawn (About 5am)? Just thought they may emerge really early in this kind of weather. Alan O-> O+> |

Posted: 24 Jun 2003 Ah , Thanks Mervyn , Gemma . I often look at this time of day when in Turkey , but then some herps out there are nocturnal , and anyhow it can often take a couple of hours walking mountains before the destination is reached. Earliest I've ever looked in UK is 1am with a torch , and about 7:00am . Thanks, Alan O-> O+> |

Posted: 25 Jun 2003 Alan, I reckon this "look at dawn" malarkey is just a conspiracy by insomniacs to get normal, well-adjusted people out of bed before 9am - don't pay any attention! Posted: 25 Jun 2003 Well I've just spent the last few days in good'ol Lincolnshire getting up every morning at 4am. The earliest I've got to the adder sites is 5:40am and the only one I could find at that time was 'sleeping' snuggly under a tin. Much more pleasant to play with at this time of day though, I plopped her on a white board to get some photos and she just laid there for me. The same adder by 10am (I needed some shots of her doing stuff) was a rampaging ball of fury that required MUCH more dexterity to move around and photograph, much more camera shy... Earliest I saw on out basking was about 8am but the Grassies were wandering around merrily by then. BTW Alan, despite my previous dissillusionment Lincs provided me with a great show from the Grassies including a really stocky 4ft female and a hatchling (this years or last? - can't think when they hatch!). Anyway, will post some pictures later when I've transfered and converted them. Cheers all, Lee. Lee Fairclough |
