Posted: 18 Jan 2005 has anyone had spawn yet?
i checked my pond for activity last night there were a few frogs most likely males sitting about and one pair already in amplex looks like she may have a long wait as they dont usually breed for a good few weeks yet.
the Palmate newts were also out and a few woodmouse playing about on the rocks. :) Mike Lister BSc hons Ecology & Env management |

Posted: 21 Jan 2005 Female smooth newt recorded in our garden pond in Essex tonight (21-01-2005, 22:20). No signs of frogs yet but our pond was new last year so fingers crossed for our first batch of spawn :0) Gemma Fairchild, Independent Ecological Consultant |

Posted: 25 Jan 2005 Great shot Jerry! Global warming eh. They say that 24th Jan is officially the most depressing day. Maybe not now we've all seen those frogs at it. Cheers 0:) RobV |

Posted: 26 Jan 2005 I'm not expecting spawn for a couple of months at least, up here in the north. I've recently put this map of common frog spawning dates on my website: It's based on the map from Maxwell Savage's 1961 book on the common frog, which was compiled from observations in the 1930s. |

Posted: 26 Jan 2005 my disertation for my degree was based on frog spawning and whether there gettin earlier, spawnings around the lizard and cornwall occur in December onwards, this then has implications on survival with early spawn more at risk to late frosts etc. interestin to compare a new map to that one from the 1930s just have to find it :) Mike Lister BSc hons Ecology & Env management |
