Great Pics . Love the orange on your Grassy's neck .

I'll post pics of the grass snake I rescued from the garage yesterday later on . I've just been out on Ash ranges with my daughter releasing it.

Ta Al, this little thing is seriously jet propelled, I can't remember ever going to so much trouble to catch a grassie  I'm glad he's been hanging around though I first spotted him just over a week ago hunting in the pond. I've hopes that the garden will provide all he needs. Still having said that some seem to just come and go. We saw one of the vivi lizards today for the first time in over 2 months, not sure if he went for a wander or has been to ground for the hot weather. He's next on my 'hit list'

Can't wait to see your piccies

Hi Gemma ,

He he , I do hope he skunked you too

Well, At least you're getting them , and that's great news , i'm so jealous.
This one from the garage just sat perfectly still in the corner as I reached over to pick Him/Her up.
It still managed to stink my hands up though

Yep well and truly skunked for my troubles. I did threaten to Merv that I might start using it as my usual perfume

The're great pics Al , how did you do the lighting, is it flash or just positioning? I was using a lens protector, seems to have darkened my piccies a little.

LOL! Glad to hear it , but poor Merv

Thanks Gemma , there was no flash used . I posed the snakey making sure there were light green leaves in the background to create the soft green , then once again used my mini tripod and release cable.
Lens protector shouldn't darken your pics , i've got one on mine a Jessops UV . Is yours a UV Filter?

Hi Al,

I went for a Hoya UV filter. It states use for protection so I guess it should be OK. Maybe it was just the very overcast conditions when I took the piccies? I'm so new to all this that it's all more luck than design at the moment

Hi Gemma ,
Yeah, yukky and overcast here today aswell. I was fortunate enough to catch one of the few thin cloud moments .

I see that those weather type people say it's going to be sunny on thursday , so fingers crossed

Byeeee,
Al

Time for another piccy me thinks. I've been after this one all week at 'work'. He has had clay adhearing to him for over 4 days, suggesting a lot of herps probably 'went to ground' during the hot spell in June/July.

Nope, this one was moved as part of a mitigation. Been seeing him all week out on a reed bed out of reach.. but today struck lucky.

Another snake doing its mime impression of Frank Sinatra ie "Ol' Blue Eyes". Picture was taken by Martin Roome, who had never seen such blue eyes before.

One of eight seen close together by him at his best spot in Derbyshire last weekend. They seem to be sheltering in a gap in a large masonry structure over a river and using a narrow 4 inch wide ledge in the stone work to reach solid ground above the river bank.

Found this 'un under a tin yesterday - 61 subcaudals, 700mm total length. To my mind it 'looks' male, but what do you lot think?

cheers, Ian
