Hey guys,

I got utterly skunked by this little fella today. Young male, must have saved up all his goo all winter just for me. My hand still stinks and I've washed them in bleach!!

The trials of the natrix hunter. Anyway, must have been 15 - 16 in the sun today, what a lovely day for herping, joy to be alive when its like this

'bout time we had a grassie piccy  They really are in my opinion our nicest looking herp. Can't help loving the adder's evil eye, but grassies, lovely. I felt like I came out of hibernation myself today, I honestly wondered if I could still walk after the miserable winter doing not a lot - felt the same though in the sun, joy to be alive. (Don't worry about the stench, give it a week or so and it will seem normal again ).

Hi all,

Not exactly from this year, but managed to recover this shot of a nice male from last year whilst out with some students in Somerset.

I prefer the shot taken by Kevin, as it looks it situ and not held in the hand .

Lovely shot of the grass snake Kevin - can see you in the
eye reflection. I may have a flick through some of my
previous years photos as well....

It's got nothing to do with censorship, don't be daft; my post was reporting this years first grassie, not past photos!

I'm just trying to keep a little order in the threads so that when we go looking for something in the future there might be a chance to find it.

Does that make any kind of sense??

It would Rob if you had said Grass Snakes 2011 in the title. I kind of feel guilty, as I was saying how lovely grassies are then we got a picture posted showing just how lovely they are

Why not start up a Grass Snakes 2011 thread and hopefully we'll keep order. Btw add any Essex adders in the Essex Adders 2011 thread too if you like, be nice to see some others from different sites to the ones I visit.

As is, grass snake still on the hit list for me this year, got my first slowy today under tin, still no grassies yet.  Time for a trip to my favourite local grassy site.

Gemma,

cheers will do, I should have put great start 2011, derrr.

Anyway, did the slowie come from Danbury? Did you have any luck there? My brother went over there saturday and found absolutely nothing. It was a weird day for herping though, the sun was great, but I'm wondering if that deep frost made the herps a little wary of coming up for air!

Hi Rob, yep slowy was under the tins on Danbury Common, I didn't check them all, just happened to be under the first I lifted on my way to Backwarden. Saturday was weird, I was over at the Wick, sun was great but the frost certainly made for a slow day with just two adder showing.
