You can, and if you would that would be great. If you have a pair of heavy duty gloves, I would advise that you wear them. You can lift the grates, courtesy of a crow bar, but they are heavy to lift, so maybe someone could help. Then, all you need is a long net that kids sometimes use at ponds etc. If you haven't got a net, you could rig up a device using a mop handle or similar with a plastic carrier bag tied tightly by one handle, but you'll have to piece the bottom with quite a lot of pencil sized holes to let the water flow through but not the toads. remember to put the grate back down after your rescue job is finished. Posted: 02 Sep 2006 Will i get arrested for moving the grid? Crikey im panicking now. I got my mop pole but i think the grid will be way too heavy. Its the one with the strips of metal going across and small rectangular gaps in between. |

Posted: 02 Sep 2006 That was going through my mind.... Worse thing was i seen my friend as i was walking along the road, not to mention the strange looks of passers by.... Unfortunateley there was one dead one in there. Poor sap must have drowned. What i done in the end was tie an asda bag to a mop handle and wait for the frogs to jump in it. I got some pictures but will have to wait for them to be devloped....One looked very colourful, a lot like this one..... |

Posted: 03 Sep 2006 Hello toad_holio Interesting record for Liverpool?, since the animal in your photo is not a common toad, but a European 'Green frog' species - possibly edible/pool frog. Obviously, full ID will depend on the outcome of your developed piccies!

[/QUOTE] good show. as a schoolkid i used to regularly see frogs in the drain in the street outside my house (our street used to get flooded at the slightest hint of rain). most of these used to die, and in hindsight only wish i was of the age and resources i am now to attempt a rescue rather than worrying about tomorrows geography homework!
