I think it will be good to go back to Lightwater Country
Park for a field trip in April this year.

As you may or may not know smooth snakes were again
found on the Motorway verge last year. These snakes have
a habit of disappearing for lengthy periods of time.

Two adult snakes were found last year by Mott Macdonald
and I believe Martin Noble. Photos were sent round of
the individual found.

You would not have thought that they were onthe roadside
verge at the moment considering the road works and the
distinct lack of mitigation works......

Anyway I would like to find all six reptiles at the site
so I wondered whether anyone would like to meet up at
the site in mid April......

First 2 weeks of april are ok for me because I'm off work then.   May pop down to a site in Dorset tomorrow if the weather is ok.

Hi Jon,

Lightwater is one of the core sites for Surrey reptile monitoring, and will receive at least formal 10 surveys this year.

There were other sightings, and photos of Ca at the site last year, not on the motorway verges, but further into the heath.

If you could formally record the results (tin numbers and negative records) I'd be grateful. Good chance I could attend if it's the week either side of Easter.

If you could let Gordie (ranger) know of your presence, that would also be appreciated, as he's very supportive of survey effort and likes to know who's on his patch.

Ta,

Steve

Hi Steve

I will do so I am in regular contact with Gordon. I have some sand lizard records for you - I will download and put them into a spreadsheet for you.

The smoothies are found in extremely high numbers in some surveys - over 8 per hectare while other surveys have found few animals. A very curious site to say the least.....
