Posted: 29 Dec 2004 Please excuse my ignorance, I have tried to research this question and so far came up blank. As we know reptiles bask in the sun to build up a store of kinetic energy also as a means to regulate internal temperature. How do nocturnal reptiles attain these goals? Do they sleep in a den semi-exposed to the sun, or is there a more sceintific answer? Thanks Ross |

Posted: 31 Dec 2004 OK, remember I have NO background in herps..... I'm guessing most nocturnal reptiles are THERMOCONFORMERS. Basically this means that their operating temperature is close to ambient. I'm sure a web search would explain it better, and perhaps illuminate my ignorance!. Good starting point tho :P Could also be that they get their enegy thru thermal conduction, erm...THIGMOTHERMS? I think? Steve Langham - Chairman Surrey Amphibian & Reptile Group (SARG). |
