He worked for the Natural history museum in the pollen dept, but one of his real interested was reptiles. He had written quite a few books on the subject.
I met him about 25 years ago at the old IHS meeting in Birmingham, really nice guy.

Peter was a good friend and I only found out about his passing just a little while ago.
Don't forget his little adder book, is/was very popular.
He also has photos in my new book 'Old World Viper'.

He also edited the BHS Bulletin for a long time and made a darn good job of it. he will be missed.

peter staffords two shire natural history books (lizards of the british isles/the adder) are both essential purchases.
big bridges to better understanding for the naturalist whos got the basics but isnt ready to read a herp journal yet.
they certainly brought me on.

amazing value for money at the time too.

a belated RIP mr stafford. great work!

in fact just about anything in that shire natural history series is worth getting.
Diversity.
