Posted: 30 May 2003 I had a letter passed on to me today about the removal of Frogs,toads and Slow worms from Queen Elizabeth II barracks which I think is in or near Fleet. Apparently the builder and ranger also removed Great Crested Newts and destroyed the reservoir where they were living. Apparently no licenses were obtained does anyone know about this site and is this information correct before I take it further. Posted: 30 May 2003 QEB at Fleet I am working on this contract and as far as i know all is above board it is a brownfield site and my survey has revealed that low densitiy slow worm and common liz pops plus a few grass snake sightings. Tony |

Posted: 31 May 2003 I presume so by the name but the ;etter does not say so. Letter is from someone from the local Civic society unfortunately no phone No. Tony was there a Greta Crested newt reservoir or a survey done. I have never known what Brown field site really means to the herpetologist. Often Reptile and Amphibian populations can be higher in old industrial sites reverting to scrub than on farmers fields so that is a get out excuse by developers as far as I am concerned. Posted: 31 May 2003 I've always thought that compulsory purchase of low species density farm land was the way ahead for development. Anyone know more about this barracks place? Martin. |
