Posted: 18 Mar 2004 Hi all, I have spent the last 2 days moving some 100 adult frogs from one single fishing lodge to a more secure country park area. Not only are the vast amounts of spawn going completely to waste, but the local school kids have been killing vast amounts (i have since caught them in the act and severely threatened them!)Plus i have sent a horrible pic to the local paper showing what they did. I have never seen so many adults in a single pond, but all were situated in an area no more than 15ft in length. It has been a long process, and although i didn't catch them all, i relocated a good 100 frogs, and the new area(s) are far more suitable and secure. As there is already a strong population of Ranas and Triturus there anyway. Two days off college was well worth it in my view! Have attached digital pics taken with my new Canon MV750i camcorder. I noted many pattern and colour variations, including a red male. I've had to reduce the quality considerably to to upload. Matthew Wilson |

Posted: 19 Mar 2004 Hi Matt, great stuff! I was suprised at the number of visble common toads I observed in Essex this week, 200+ in a 20ft stretch of water, quite amazing. You could preserve picture quality by resizing the pictures to get to the upload limit. Taking them down to 700-800 pixel width will not only reduce the file size but also keep the whole picture in view on most monitors. See this thread for some tips on how to do this http://www.herpetofauna.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=435&PN=1 Gemma pretending to be the moderator until I get my computer back Moderator |
