Dan Kane Senior Member Joined: 30 Dec 2005 No. of posts: 201 View other posts by Dan Kane	Posted: 29 Jan 2006 There will probably be some amphibians like Marbled Newts and Dissglossius family members if you look carefully, and along roads or under refugia there may be some snakes and/or lizards absorbing the heat collected by them. Often there are dead snakes on roads, killed by traffic in their search for heat. Sadly, many drivers swerve to hit these beautiful animals, but they're just sad. I'm also going to Spain soon. I'm staying in a hotel for 1 day, prior to a snowboarding holiday in Andorra. The hotel in Spain is on the west coast a bit down from Girona, and i'm going to convince my dad to drive/take me to some likely herp spots if I see any. Anyway, have a good time, and Happy Herping! Dan Kane Senior Member Joined: 30 Dec 2005 No. of posts: 201 View other posts by Dan Kane	Posted: 29 Jan 2006 I went to south west Spain (Frigilalana) in October, and found Iberian Wall Lizards (5) and a Large Psammodromus (which was trying in vein to defend itself from a cat, but I rescued it and released it into a field, in which I also found the Iberian Wall Lizards. To find out what you may discover try looking on http://www.herp.it or http://www.club100.net Reptiles do hibernate, but in a warm area, such as south Spain, it's not for very long, maybe only November, December, Janurary, and part of Feburary, it depends on the species. Indeed, some may do the opposite; hide in holes or dig a shelter if it's a particularly hot or dry summer. There is a proper word for this, aestiviate (not so sure about the spelling...) I wouldn't go poking your hands in any likely looking holes though, as you may get bitten if it's occupant is home, which it will more than likely be, as they only emerge to intercept prey or to move home. Do you know of any sources of info. other than what you've mentioned for herptiles in the area? I can't get onto most of the andalucian website you mention or the bothrops one. Weather was like an English spring with a cold breeze. Pleased with the snake it made me jump very agrressive! Has anyone got any pics of Horseshoe Whip Snakes? I will be going back in May or June.
