Posted: 23 Jul 2004 Hello folks , I've lived in Ash for eight years now and in that time have never come across any common toads in my local area . Well , three years ago my brother (who lives in Shepperton) Was renovating my fathers old council house , and when he was clearing the garden he came across eight adult toads . I took them and released them in my garden never to be seen again :¼( . However , this year for the first time ever i'm finding looooads of buby toads walking across my lawn :¼) , so i'm assuming they did settle somewhere local and have successfully bred :¼) Al O-> O+> |

Posted: 23 Jul 2004 Well Al you really should have known better.... ......still a few toad taddies might have fallen out of my pockets into the garden pond this year... well we made the pond too late for the breeding season and it looked soooo empty until the newts came on their own! Posted: 04 Aug 2004 hey all, i live in frimley-near ash. and this year -well over the last few years i have noticed that the numbers of toads has dramatically dropped. this year i have only seen a few tadpoles. i don't know if this is due to management being carried out at the wrong time of year or if their is as national decline. anyway back to the subject.i built a pond although very smll it already has many common toads in under ayear. very pleased. mark jacobs |

Posted: 05 Aug 2004 Hi Al, Great pic as ever and I'm sure I've seen that face before.. Where I used to live in Derbyshire our evening walk to the local pub used to become an obstacle course this time of year as hundreds of tiny tiny toadies clambered about on the footpath. Borrowed a few for an amphibian talk one year, the kids loved 'em and the toadies seemed to enjoy the attention. :-)) Lisa |

Posted: 06 Jul 2005 I, like so many of you have a great affection for toads. That look of resignation on their faces just cracks me up. Although my crappy scanner has given my pic a weird plasticky effect and doesnt really do the shot justice, i thought I'd share it. i entered it into this years NHM and BG World wildlife photo of year comp. out of 17,000 entries from all over the world this got to the semi finals in topic; ie Animal Behaviour - Reptiles amphibians. No doubt some huge bull frog swallowing a deer will win it (lol) but hey, semis is not bad for our fast disappearing little diamonds eh lads????? R
