Posted: 03 Mar 2006 Hi everyone, for some reason my portion of Shropshire seems to be completely bare of all reptiles. does any one know of any good sites in Shropshire, prefrably in the North where i can find them? Cheers Birder from Shropshire, adrift in Cornwall! |

Posted: 03 Mar 2006 I've certainly come across records of reptiles in Shropshire but sorry, don't recall the places though. Like many counties, they're dotted about, just a case of knowing where to look for 'em. I trust you're only after them to watch'n'study, record, photo', or film them. Actually, i do know of one place just within the county where there's at least meant to be Adders (possibly Common lizards & Slow-worms too) but it's in the south-west, beside the Powys border. |

Posted: 04 Mar 2006 Hi thanks for the info. i know of only one place where i can see adders, Whixall and Fens mosses in the north west. as for the Slow worm i'm very interested on all aspects of Shropshire wildlife and reptiles are my next research project, i'm also writing an artical for another forum (caudata) on outdoor vivaria, which is mainly on caudate husbandry, but i also want to touch on european reptiles too, since i'm building another outdoor vivaria right now, i want to get a few neonates to colonise it, as well as photograph some adults in the wild Birder from Shropshire, adrift in Cornwall! |

Posted: 07 Mar 2006 Just a question to anyone with an answer, i often encountered slowworms last year at the stables and although easy enough to gage the sex of addults i found it difficult to tell the difference between those prob under 3 seasons or so. any helpfull hints out there? Thanks, Lucym.
