15 yrs ago the peak of spring moult was April 18 for study sites below

Todays moulted males

What was that you were saying Wolfgang about doubleglazing and polar bears?

Adders mating at Norden today!

18yr female with 15yr male (honest).

This female last bred 2002, 65cm, brick red, beautiful snake, always docile.
The male - 62cm and fiesty one of the top dogs here.

Other males within 15M but just lying around, two had shed, another two preshed. I guess it will all kick off properly next week, or perhaps this weekend. Look forward to this Easter Parade.

Lifted tin at Hartland, 50M in fron cleared area, 8 male adders beneath, 3 had moulted.
Over about five sites today a total 0f 32 - 12 were adult females of about 9 were breeding condition, another female had fed already (W.Forest). 2 last years babes, 2 immature female, the rest were males and 10 were still premoult. The spring moult is nowehere as synched as it was ten years ago.

Will go to Mendips site soon, I know none of the males will moult until at least the third week of this month.

Tony Hi

Took the attached image today in Derbyshire of a female adder having just moulted.

Saw no adders in Wales - it was so cold and raining all the time.

Regards

Geoff
