Posted: 04 Feb 2004 I have a tadpole in my pond that refuses to grow up.It has been there since june 2003.I have been watching it today 04/02/2004 swimming happily around. Will it ever evolve. RonB |

Posted: 05 Feb 2004 Ron, sometimes tadpoles will over-winter, the reasons are not always clear, but for some reason they do not complete development in a single season as most do. It maybe because of conditions in the pond, too much competition from other tadpoles, lack of nutrients, the factors are varied. Posted: 07 Feb 2004 Hiya Ronbell, I have an old bath planted up for taddies to overwinter, it's outdoor of course and sheltered from the worse of wind. I let it be, use it for bringing on new plants. The taddies do well in it, it will produce froglets this year, how many, I could not say. It is not unusual to see tadpoles fail to evolve, one would think those 'born' earliest would have a head start, that is not so. I have found early spawnings to be a very long affair, the later spawnings however, they tramp on. Let us know how your taddie develops |

Posted: 27 May 2004 I've had Tadpoles over winter on a number of ocasions, i find it's quite common but as long as your pond is quite deep no harm will come to your tadpoles :) |
