Posted: 08 Jun 2003 Well, this is my first attempt to add an image: An unusually marked common frog seen at Cockfield, Co. Durham, today: I've looked at a lot of ponds round Co. Durham in the last few weeks- and the toads seem to be doing well- there are toad tadpoles in most ponds, but very few frogs or newts. |

Posted: 09 Jun 2003 Missed this one yesterday. I've seen some strangely marked common frogs before , but not one like that. If you look in this weeks Amatuer Gardening magazine there is one similar to your frog , but not quite so strongly marked on the black. Cheers, Alan O-> O+> |

Posted: 09 Jun 2003 Hi Caleb, Strange how these things happen, but was called this morning to ID some large tadpoles, turned out to be Common Frog, and they were big too! Many of the tadpoles were very darkly marked and on visiting a garden of one of those concerned about their ID I saw a couple of common frogs with similar markings in black to yours. ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 18 Jan 2004 Hiya Caleb, I have a resident frog (several years) that I assume to be a male, he's quite black, forget frogs are green! Anyway, he over winters in the pond and I afford him residential status. Although often seen hunting for food, I have not witnessed my friend taking part in the spring 'mating game'. He's there non the less. Last year the diversity of colours amongst the frogs was extremely apparent, golden yellow to dark olive. I put this down to the soil type and urban habitat they live in. I have also witnessed albinos. regards dave n dogs
