Posted: 12 Jun 2004 Hi They will eat what they can fit in their mouths that moves, little flies, bugs and tiny worms if they find any. The margins of ponds are usually just the place for them to find this kind of food. ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 16 Jun 2004 Hi Sonia, Tiny frogs will drown in water, it sounds odd for a creature that starts life in a pond and needs them to breed, but young froglets are very weak swimmers. Perhaps moving them to the flower borders is the best thing. ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 16 Jun 2004 Thanks Gemma, I hope that was it - although I had seen them climbing in and out of the jam jar lid so I thought it would be ok. I've removed it now. Anyway I caught a load and put them in the flower bed but I think there's lots more hiding under stones and in the wood pile. I've also picked some leaves off the plum tree that are covered in green aphids. But the froggies don't seem to go for them - maybe they're still too big for them. I should have posted this in the frog forum really - I only just noticed it... What a brilliant site! And how nice to find other people equally doting on their emerging froggies!! (The only thing is, most of the pictures that people have posted don't display for me. Any ideas why?) |

Posted: 16 Jun 2004 Hi again Sonia, We are in a bit of a limbo at the moment regarding pictures because they were using so much of our monthly bandwidth allowance that I had to keep closing the forum, hopefully the majority will be restored soon. It might be worth putting some logs close by to the flower borders to provide hiding places, froglets love damp shady areas to hide especially in this hot weather. I'm suprised they didn't eat the aphids, toadlets certainly do! ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 17 Jun 2004 Half of our garden pond backs on to an overgrown rockery...the other half onto a large, bare, paved area. Today I found my first froglet, not taking the easy, sloping route out of the back of the pond and into cover, but instead struggling out at the other side onto the bare concrete...hope too many more aren't as dumb as him! |

Posted: 17 Jun 2004 Oh they are stupid aren't they!? But soooooo cute... I'm pleased to report that some of ours have started hunting aphids now with a vengence. Not that it's very hard to catch an aphid sitting on a leaf, but they arch their backs and really concentrate before zapping them double quick. I saw one eat five in a row last night. I hope you can get the bandwidth sorted out Gemma. It's a really nice feature that people can post pictures in the forums but a bit expensive... especially when everyone's baby froglets are so photogenic! |

Posted: 18 Jun 2004 Hi Sonia, http://photobucket.com/ will allow you to post pictures to the forum without eating our bandwidth, restoring the older pictures is more down to me finding the time. I'm glad to hear your froglets have learnt the art of sneaking up on aphids :0) ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 27 Apr 2009 They wont eat non moving food - if you have any black fly or green fly on roses etc you can cut the rose buds off and place them in the tank. I used to feed froglets with green fly when I was younger. The best advice would be to let them go into the garden J Vice Chair of ARG UK - self employed consultant - visit ARG UK & Alresford Wildlife |

Posted: 27 Apr 2009 Frogs are native on the island, but the froglets are only 1 cm big, i think they are still very dependant on me. |

Posted: 27 Apr 2009 Are they actually 'froglets' yet, or still 'tadpoles' Woosal? Seems a bit early for froglets already. |

Posted: 28 Apr 2009 That would be algae - and should not be a problem for tadpoles or frogs. When did you collect the spawn? or when did you first see the spawn? J Vice Chair of ARG UK - self employed consultant - visit ARG UK & Alresford Wildlife |
