In the past few years I have had some sandies visiting and nesting on my patio.

They seem to be keen on coming into the house! We usually manage to catch them and return them outside again, but last year, sadly we found a couple of (tiny) expired ones behind the furniture.

So, any ideas on how to make the patio more attractive and the house less so please?

I know we could simply leave all the doors and windows closed, but south facing in south Dorset in the summer ... we'd expire!

Most of us would envy you - sand lizards on your patio and inside!

Could you put some sort of deterrent barrier across the entry points like wide sticky strips or some of that barrier fencing they use on heaths etc. to stop them. You'd probably need to put it so as to stop them coming on the patio and from there into the house.

I expect you'll make a real eyesore of your garden with putting up obstacles!

Stunning sand lizards,  I am very jealous!

The top picture looks like a male viviparous lizard to me.  If you find a slow worm in your garden you might have all three British species in your garden which is quite a result!

Hi Dorsetgal, the male Sandy looks a bit thin to me, when was this picture taken? Maybe you could through them a handful of mealworms every now and again?

Edit - 'Through'?!....'Throw' sorry!
