Posted: 15 Aug 2006 I dont think there would be a problem with the windmills themselves like there is with birds but what I see as the problem is the amount of habitat that vanishes under concrete to produce the base for the windmills plus the extra concrete bases that are needed for the cranes in construction and future maintenance that are never talked about in the documents I have seen. This concrete may be used by reptiles around the edge and perhaps could have logs etc. placed on them as habitat but would not be very good for amphibians or invertebrates(food). Perhaps there would be a way to put a pond somewhere on each concrete base which may mitigate for the lost habitat and be out of the way of the crane movement. I have not seen the construction myself but did have a discussion with a consultant who had carried out a lot of work on them for their effect on birds and he told me that there was a hell of a lot of area taken up on ground level as well as the obvious aerial part.
