how about a thread for best pic on RAUK this year? it seems unlikely we'll get further contenders now. loads of good ones - thanks everybody for taking time to share em!

my vote goes to kevinb's "STILL IN BED" (under COMMON LIZARD)
that shook my tree alright. its just as startling every time i return to it. like a great song.

sorry i dont know how to post a link to it!

what do you all think stood out? and tell us what you like about your chosen pic. be good to hear some proper Photographers views too.

Ben you're a star keeping us all going through the dark, dim days of non-herping.

Hi.

But what do we mean by "best"?  Most herpetologically interesting?  Most aesthetically pleasing?

Not a photo (and arguably not from this year!), but I thought Fraser's "Short Adder film from 2009" was absolutely terrific!  See Photography Forum, March 2010.

Admittedly it's not a 2010 pic, but my favourite on here is the "periscope" photo by Jide on page 7 of Grass Snake.

I don't know if its rigged or not and I don't want to knw, all I do know is, it is a stunning picture.

I have to say my faves are of Tim's kids loving the snakes.

i havent got any children but i can easily see shes identified the most important RAUK pic moments.

tims portraits document the crucial passing-on of herp knowledge and love to the next generation. without them, SSSIs are pointless.

a heart-warming metamorphosis to witness.

i love to see tadpoles so full of vigour!

my Steep Holm pix were no match for your vipera birth-documenting images dave f. if you think they were, then put it down to beginners luck on my part!

anyone else care to venture an opinion on RAUK photos 2010 or beyond?

dont be shy.....we need and love you

of my own efforts i find this common frog metamorph sat on a slug chewed fringed waterlily leaf quite pleasing. note pond snail taking air on the right lending the shot an interesting "sub-plot"

i liked loads of your pix keith. esp the headless adder ones and the cricket they were a bit different.

your pic of the sign inspired me too. i always snap signs myself now if they mention or depict herps. i probably wouldnt have done that before. it gives a post a little extra something. bit of background.

hi folks

keith - you may win a prize for worst pics but you'd
definitely win the prize for the person who makes me
laugh most on the forum. keep up the good work mate.

thanks for some kind comments about some of my pics.

i'm not just saying this because he mentioned my slowworm
pic but dave's adder giving birth will take some beating
any year.

cheers

I would like to join in the love for Keiths phone pics, this place would be a much duller place without Keith and those pics, its like "oh I saw this on my way home down the alley behind the old field, it sort of legged it into the bush but I did get this quick pic with my phone" More next year please mate.
