Posted: 19 May 2007 Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my pet Corn Smake? During the last few weeks it has developed a huge bulge towards the back of its body. It definitely isn't fresh food. Many Thanks, Mike Mike Brown Merseyside ARG |

Posted: 23 May 2007 Hi Mike, I have to urge you to get your snake to a vet. Trying to guess a diagnosis, sight unseen (or even from pictures) is very unreliable, and potentially endangering your snake. It needs professional assessment and where appropriate, suitable further diagnostic tests. I hope you can get him/her sorted out. Bruce Maclean, Bird & Exotic Animal Veterinary Services. |

Posted: 24 May 2007 i agree with taken to the vets - is there a chance she is pregnant? the eggs do make the end of the snake swell. best to get a vet to check it out but could you post a piccy as i would be interested - i have 2 corn snakes (one female who has been pregnant twice) Working on a 12 month conservation project with Durham Wildlife Trust and Darlington Borough Council on Great Crested Newts. Posted: 25 May 2007 Hi Many thanks for the comments. Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to post pictures on this site, but I don't think pregnancy is the cause as there has been no male near her for a long time! Mike Brown

Posted: 26 May 2007 Hi Mike, It is really common for corns to develop lumps in the lower third of their body. These lumps are usually harmless and the snake will live its usual life unaffected. But as said above, Still get your snake checked out by a vet. Cheers, Al O-> O+> |
