Me and Mark had a good days herping today in Dorset, we found 5 out of 6 native reptiles (the common lizard was the one that evaded us!) plus 3 amphibian species, including 2 GCNs, which was a very nice supprise for me they are my first sighting of a GCN, i beleive they were females.
also saw another newt but i'll be honest that i dont really know to much about newts, so any help iding it would be appreciated obviously its either a smooth newt or a palmate newt.
One male adder we came across was not to happy to be disturbed but we had to wait until he moved so we could put the tin back down, but he was quite determined to stay where he was so in the end we decided the best thing to do was to move the tin slightly.
here are some pics of the day, hopefully Mark will add soem of his as my camera has an annoyiong habit of not focusing sometimes, yes its my cameras fault, not my lack of photography skills!

Smooth snake 1

smooth snake 2

Angry adder

grass snake about to shed

juvenile sand lizard

so thats all the reptiles, apart from slow worms, which we saw a few off but i didnt take any photos, as much as i love slowwies i just have far to many photos of them! and no common lizard, one day i WILL take photos and video of all 6 in one day!
Now the amphibians

My first GCN's

unidentified young newt

Glad you enjoyed them
As for the unidentified newt, Mark recons its a Palmate, and after doing a bit of reading i have to agree thats what it is, the orange stripe running down the back and continuing along the tail is the feature that confirmed it for me
