Nice Grass Snake, Dave.  I was lucky today too.... this is one of two I saw near Leek/Stoke this morning.

no melanistic yet though? he probably mentioned it to you too but the landowner told me his wife used to see a lot of black snakes around there when she was growing up. it will certainly be a help if there's more than one!
