Posted: 29 Jun 2009 Hi Tim, We found two on the penninsula where I have never seen them before (but rarely look) ,one by the picnic area and all of the others in area below the reservoir ,with many concentrated along one particular edge.We saw the first four in mist and light drizzle at around 8 am. What I love about this place is everyone seems to know about tha adders there but are quite proud of the fact even the dog owners. Although I drove past a news paper stand last night that said "dog survives snake bite" so that might change. Dave Williams davewilliamsphotography.co.uk |

Posted: 29 Jun 2009 Looks like that first male adder has had a good feed. How far are these snakes from the hibernation area now, and have you identified individuals in this population? 'I get my kicks on Route 62' |

Posted: 29 Jun 2009 Hi Tony, We found the majority about 100 yards from the hibernation site althogh two males had travelled double that distance.I was very surprised not to have seen any snakes on the hibernation mound, that is almost a cast iron certainty especially with us having seen so many. We had identified just seven or eight individuals upto yesterday, this is our first year of trying and we have lots of sites to cover but I m sure after first looking I recognize at least two of them from yesterday. If your ever in these parts visiting family,I will ensure a fantastic bacon butty and cup of coffee for you in exchange for a little of your expertise. Dave Williams davewilliamsphotography.co.uk |

[/QUOTE] If you email John Baker at johninhalesworth@aol.com he can send you the Make the adder count form for 2009. You can put peak counts for previously years if you have them for the site. Its a simple form which is providing vital information on adder populations across the country. It is in its fifth year and we need to get population data from at least 100 sites a year. Spring count data is the main focus but any data on numbers of animals seen at any time of year is useful. If you can carry out the survey for 2010 then then that would also be great for the adder.
