Posted: 29 Jun 2003 Just had some toadlets emerging from the water, however one one of them is having some real difficulty using its front legs, as they are 'sticking' to its chest. Is this a common phenomena? |

Posted: 29 Jun 2003 Hi Craig, I've seen similar with back legs on toadlets and also both hind and fore limbs of common froglets. It suggests to me that this individual toadlet is suffering some form of muscle or nerve dysfunction or is very weak, there are often a few that don't make it normally through metamorphosis. ----RAUK e-Forum---- |

Posted: 29 Jun 2003 Thanks for the reply, Gemma. I had suspected that its development was stunted in some way; toads being as susceptible to runts as much as any other animal. These are the first toads I have reared and, compared to the froglets which we recently released into the wild following their successful metamorphoses(?), are comparatively small. Identifying runts, therefore, is somewhat harder. |
